A MUSLIM group will put the Koran on display in Huddersfield to try to increase tolerance.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Association will exhibit the book at Huddersfield Town Hall next week.
The move comes after an American Christian group burnt the Koran on March 20.
More than 20 people, including United Nations staff, have been murdered in Afghanistan by Muslims angry about the incident.
Huddersfield South president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Fatihul Haq said: “Both actions deserve condemnation and both were perpetrated by a tiny minority of extremists who in no way represent the true teachings of the faith they claim to support.
“We are responding to the burning of our Holy Book in exact accordance to the true teachings of Islam – through peaceful means.
“While we condemn the burning, and urge all sensible and law-abiding people around the world to do the same, we also feel it is important to let people know of the true nature of this Holy Book.”
The Koran will be on display at the town hall from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, April 23.
