This is the text of al Qaida's statement acknowledging the death of Osama bin Laden. It was translated by McClatchy Special Correspondent Mohannad Sabry.
"Thanks be to Allah who said 'And if you are killed or die in the Way of Allah, forgiveness and mercy from Allah are far better than all that they amass.'
"And may peace be upon Prophet Mohammad who said 'I wished to be killed in the way of Allah and be brought back to life and be killed and brought back again and killed.'
"And may peace be upon his companions that spread the truth with their justice and protected the religion with their bodies and spilled their blood to elevate it, 'But they never lost heart for that which did befall them in Allah's Way, nor did they weaken nor degrade themselves.'
"And may peace be upon who followed their path, fought their fight and stayed as patient as they were.
\ "On a historic day of the days of the great Islamic nation, and in a noble stand of one of its great men and heroes across its blessed age, and on the path taken by the will of all the mighty predecessors and those who will follow them, the Sheikh, the Mujahid and the Commander, the pious migrant fighter, Abu Abdullah Osama bin Muhammad bin Laden, may God have mercy on him, was killed in a place where truth shines and where sincerity for good deeds and the call for truthfulness exist.
"Bin Laden was killed so he can follow the nation's mighty caravan of great leaders, loyal soldiers, and honest knights who refused to abandon their faith and surrender to those who would humiliate them and be humiliated. He confronted weaponry with weaponry, force with force and agreed to challenge the arrogant masses that came out to fight with their killing machines, equipment, aircraft and forces, boastfully so they can be seen as men. But this didn’t weaken his determination nor drain his strength, but instead he stood up to them face to face, a mighty mountain as he always was. He was in the midst of the battle he was familiar with, his eyes accustomed to its sceneries after delivering his message up until he received the bullets of betrayal and blasphemy to deliver his soul to its creator. "Whoever sacrifices his soul for his lord cannot be blamed.
"He ended his shining life with the honor he was always seeking over the years, the honor he cruised the earth looking for and was keen on, therefore he welcomed it when it arrived, saying 'But none is granted it except those who are patient, and none is granted it except the owner of the great portion (of the happiness in the Hereafter i.e. Paradise and in this world of a high moral character).
"Congratulations to the Islamic nation for the martyrdom of its grateful son Osama. After a life filled with effort, willingness, patience, calling, jihad, generosity, immigration, advice, guidance, planning, and wisdom, the life of the sheikh of Mujahidin in this era was ended, and his blood, words, stance and ending stays like a soul running in the bodies of the generations of our Islamic nation. "They learned from him that glories are not built with wishes, and that leadership is not positions and medals, and that beliefs and manners are not just words properly arranged by the tongues, and that religion does not win with good deeds and speech, and that the path of glory in life and after life is open for anyone willing to pay its tax and bear its consequences, and that leadership in religion is not reached except with patience and belief and that the capital of any man is truth and loyalty.
"The Americans managed to kill Osama and this is neither a disgrace nor a shame. Men are only killed in battlefields and every man has his fate, but could the Americans with their media, agents, machines, soldiers, intelligence and equipment kill what Sheikh Osama lived and was killed for? Impossible. Sheikh Osama did not build an organization that would die with his death or disappear with his disappearance, 'They intend to put out the Light of Allah (i.e. the religion of Islam, this Qur'an, and Prophet Muhammad) with their mouths. But Allah will complete His Light even though the disbelievers hate (it). -- He is Who has sent His Messenger (Muhammad ) with guidance and the religion of truth (Islamic Monotheism) to make it victorious over all (other) religions even though the Mushrikun (polytheists, pagans, idolaters, and disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah and in His Messenger Muhammed ) hate (it).' Such verses will always be arrows aimed at the bodies of those deaf, dumb, and ignorant people, and the religion of Allah will remain, including the jihad, carried by pure hearts, and clean hands that will work on keeping it. Truthful masses will work for its success, not worrying about who opposes them, until they meet the promise of Allah.
"Sheikh Osama Bin Laden, may Allah bless him, was not a prophet sent in the 20th century, He was a Muslim man who came from this honorable Muslim nation and held powerfully to his book, who sold his life for the afterlife and went on seeking it, so Allah elevated him to the same level he elevated his religion. Allah honored him because he honored His words, and he terrorized the nations of blasphemy and never feared except his god. The nation that gave birth to Osama continues giving birth, and from it will come men and heroes just like him, men who enjoy sacrifice and patience and destabilizing the lives of their enemies and opening the gates of hell on them, or leading them to paradise in chains. The university of Quran and Jihad from which Osama graduated did not lock and will never lock its doors. The book of Allah is memorized and its verses are read and recited day and night. It will never be erased even if the whole world decides on this. How could it be erased at a time when our nation is more willing to sacrifice for its beliefs and more powerful in the face of its enemies and more aware of what is being planned for it? It is only now that a pure generation has arisen believing in the teaching of which Sheikh Osama took part alongside his brothers and leaders. A generation that takes pride in its religion and despises the pagan West and its fake civilization, the civilization of filth and lies. A generation that comprehends the death of its leaders as a motivation for further loyalty to its religion, 'And many a Prophet fought and along with him large bands of religious learned men. But they never lost heart for that which did befall them in Allah's Way, nor did they weaken nor degrade themselves. And Allah loves the patient ones.'
“'And they said nothing but: "Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and our transgressions, establish our feet firmly, and give us victory over the disbelieving folk."
“So Allah gave them the reward of this world, and the excellent reward of the Hereafter. And Allah loves those who do good.'
"If the light of Islam was to go out with the death of anyone, it would have happened with the death of the master of all creatures Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and the Arabs would have repented. Or its page would have been turned with the death of Omar, Othman, or Ali. How many leaders walked on their righteous path and filled earth with their words and jihad? The light of truth has never faded with their deaths, and their followers never pulled back with their absence. Their deaths only increased their anger toward their enemies and reinforced their will to retaliate while holding the flags of truth and reading Allah’s words: 'Among the believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allah, of them some have fulfilled their obligations, and some of them are still waiting, but they have never changed in the least.'
Therefore, we, Al Qaida, pledge to Allah, and ask Him for support, to continue on the path of jihad on which our leaders walked, led by Sheikh Osama, without fear or hesitation until Allah decides between us and our enemies. He is the best judge. We will not mind if we reach our victory and triumph or die seeking it: 'Let those who sell the life of this world for the Hereafter fight in the Cause of Allah, and who so fight in the cause of Allah, and is killed or gets victory, We shall bestow on him a great reward.'
"We confirm that the blood of Bin Laden will not be wasted, it’s very precious to us and will remain a curse chasing the Americans and their followers and agents inside and outside their countries. And very soon, God willing, we will turn their happiness to sorrow, their blood will mix with their tears and we will keep Bin Laden’s oath: “America and whoever lives in it will never enjoy peace until our families in Palestine enjoy it. The soldiers of Islam will continue thinking and planning without fear or hesitation until they hit with a powers that would turn children into old men.” We also call on our Muslim people in Pakistan to revolt and clean their country of this shameful incident that happened on their soil by a bunch of traitors who sold everything to enemies of the nation. We call for an uprising that will clean their country of the Americans corrupting it. “Allah will not change the good condition of a people as long as they do not change their state of goodness themselves.”
The sheikh refused to leave this world before sharing with his Muslim nation the happiness of its revolutions in the face of injustice and tyrants, for which he recorded a voice message one week before his death which included congratulations, advice and guidance, which we will be publishing soon. It included the following poem:
Speaking truth in the face of the tyrant is an honor
It’s the path to life and the path to the afterlife
If you wish, you could die a slave. And, if you wish, you could die free.
"We also warn the Americans about touching the body of the Sheikh, may God rest his soul, or attempting any harassment to his family members either dead or alive. We tell them to hand the dead bodies to the families or else any offense will open further doors of evil on you and you will have no one to blame but yourselves. We call on all Muslims to do their duty in gaining such a right.
