Indian Muslim leaders question Pak sincerity in fighting terror

Board vice-chairman and Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Sadiq said Pakistan has become the US slave. He refused to accept Osama as an Muslim, saying the way he killed innocent people in the world showed that he was not a Muslim as Islam never allows killing of innocent people.

Lucknow, May 03: Hailing the killing of al Qaida chief Osama bin Laden in Pakistan's Army town Abbottabad, Indian Muslim clerics and leaders today questioned the sincerity of Islamabad's committment to fighting terrorism.

All India Muslim Personal Law Board member Maulana Khalid Rashid Firingi Mahali criticised Pakistan for its "pro-terrorist" approach. He said the killing of Osama near the Pakistan national capital proves that Islamabad is giving patronage to terrorists.

He urged India to pressure Pakistan to extradite the 1993 Bombay serial blasts mastermind Dawood Ibrahim and terrorists involved in the 26/11 terror strike on the country's financial and entertainment capital in 2008.

Another Board member and convenor of the Babri Maszid Action Committee Zafarayeb Jilani also demanded handing over Dawood and other terrorists wanted in India.

Jilani, however, criticised burial of Osama at sea, saying it was "un-Islamic" and "fishy".

Board vice-chairman and Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Sadiq said Pakistan has become the US slave. He refused to accept Osama as an Muslim, saying the way he killed innocent people in the world showed that he was not a Muslim as Islam never allows killing of innocent people.

The Maulana, a trenchent critic of the United States, however, urged India to take a lesson from the US to end terrorism. He wanted the US to act against all terror forces and not only against those which had conspired against it. "There should not be two definition of terrorism in the world." Maulana Takauir Raza of the Barelvi sect said now it has been proved that Pakistan is "haven" for terrorists and, therefore, anti-terror actions should continue till the menace ended.
