We must not lose our humanity, our compassion and our empathy. It should always outrage us when something as senseless as this suicide bombing takes even one life, regardless of where in the world it happens.

The May 14 front-page story “Pakistan’s spy chief offers to quit” detailed the repercussions within the Pakistani government and military of the U.S. operation that killed Osama bin Laden.
But the related suicide bombing that cost 80 lives was portrayed as a relatively insignificant afterthought, given only three paragraphs, two of them toward the end of the spy-chief story.
I found dehumanizing the description of the victims as “newly minted cadets.” These cadets were young men with mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters.
They were human beings with goals and aspirations, not mere objects. They will be mourned in their homes and villages for years to come. They paid the ultimate price in the war against al-Qaeda; it is a pity that The Post did not give more attention to their sacrifice.
We must not lose our humanity, our compassion and our empathy. It should always outrage us when something as senseless as this suicide bombing takes even one life, regardless of where in the world it happens.
