UK: Conference helps promote Islam

AROUND 120 people attended a conference at a Sheffield mosque to promote greater understanding of Islam.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Association, based on Sussex Street, invited teachers, doctors, policemen, clergy to the event and guests included Maulana Ata-ul-Mujeeb Rashid, Imam of a London Ahmadiyya Mosque, who was also the key-note speaker, and Chief Inspector Iain Chorlton, of South Yorkshire Police.

Chief Insp Chorlton told the conference he believed there needed to be ‘more community cohesion to help bridge gaps between faiths and in turn lower crime’.


After a question and answer session the guests were treated to a meal and then taken on a tour of the Mosque by volunteers.

Moshin Rizvi, president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association of Sheffield, said: “They were shown around various sections of the Mosque and had any other queries answered.

“The Ahmadiyya Muslim Association would like to thank all the guests who attended and made the day both enjoyable and a success.

Hopefully, by reaching out with such events, relationships in various circles of society will improve and any misunderstandings regarding Islam will be cleared.”
