Muslims around the world are in the midst of marking Ramadan, an Islamic month of fasting that focuses on humility and spirituality. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Rochester is inviting the public to learn more about their faith on Saturdays during the month of Ramadan. They're also starting a blood drive campaign called, "Muslims For Life", which, nationally, has a goal of collecting 10, 000 pints of blood in remembrance of those killed on September 11th, 2001. They're calling on people of all faiths to join them in this humanitarian effort.
A new national survey shows Rochesterians, particularly those in the "Baby Boomer" generation, lead the way when it comes to volunteerism. In fact, 41 percent of local "Boomers" volunteer in some capacity. This puts Rochester at the top of the 51 city survey. We'll hear from the United Way of Greater Rochester about this positive trend. They'll also update us on their efforts this year to encourage people to give back in a variety of ways.
