Ghana: Communities in Upper West to be connected to electricity

Wa, Aug 31, GNA - About 400 communities in the Upper West Region are to be connected to the national electricity grid to open them up for development.

Mr. Cezar Kale, the Deputy Upper West Regional Minister who announced this while addressing Muslims during the celebration of the Eid-ul-Fitr Festival at Wa, said work would soon start on the project. The Eid-ul-Fitr a festival celebrated by Muslims every year to mark the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan which entails 30 days of fasting.

Mr. Kale congratulated all Muslims for successfully completing the one month exercise and said Islam was an admirable religion that teaches a complete way of life which when followed benefited mankind and society at all times.


"Muslims should therefore continue to play a major role in guiding society at all times", he said. He also commended Muslims for their effort in maintaining peace and unity in the country, adding that it was the hope of President John Atta Mills that they have a joyous celebration and a brighter and prosperous future in fulfillment of his 93Better Ghana" agenda. He said the best achievement of government was in the area of education which according to him witnessed an unprecedented infrastructural expansion over the last two and half years. The Deputy Regional Minister said a visit to the Wa Secondary/Technical School, the Wa Islamic Senior High School (SHS) and the Ahmadiyya SHS among many others in the region would attest to that fact.

In the area of health, Mr. Kale said the construction of the Regional Hospital in addition to five Polyclinics had taken off and would soon be completed.

He said serious efforts were also being put in place to improve on the water situation in Wa. On Agriculture, Mr. Kale said government had given more hope to farmers by the provision of improved seeds, introduction of the 93Block Farming" concept and the implementation of the subsidized fertilizer scheme. They also prayed to Almighty Allah to strengthen the faith of all Muslims to enable them abide by the tenets and principles of Islam in order to project the good image of the religion.
