Pakistan: Punjab leads in rape, named most violent province for women

According to the report, 78 per cent of the total 1,063 complaints filed for crimes against women were registered in Punjab, 11 per cent in Sindh, 8 per cent in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 2 per cent in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) and 1 per cent in Balochistan.

ISLAMABAD Punjab has become the most violent province in the country, a report based on data collected by Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) across 70 districts in the country revealed on Thursday.

According to the report, 78 per cent of the total 1,063 complaints filed for crimes against women were registered in Punjab, 11 per cent in Sindh, 8 per cent in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 2 per cent in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) and 1 per cent in Balochistan.

Of the 215 reported cases of rape, 85 per cent were in Punjab, while 5 per cent were reported from Sindh and 4 per cent from KP. 95 per cent of the total 253 complaints registered against assault on women were reported in 25 districts in Punjab, while 2 per cent were registered in four districts of KP.


The report stated that out of the 40 honour killings cases from 15 districts, 45 per cent were reported in six districts of Sindh and 25 per cent in KP. 65 per cent of 409 complaints registered in 29 districts against forced marriages were reported in 9 districts in Punjab, the report stated.

In July, FAFEN monitors visited 70 District Police offices to collect information on 27 offences covered by the Pakistan Penal Code. They monitored 28 districts in Punjab, 18 in KP, 12 in Sindh, 11 in Balochistan and one in ICT.

The report monitored 27 offences and categorised them into five categories: physical harm to persons, crimes pertaining to property, threat and fraud, crimes against women and other crimes.
