This refers to Hafsa Khawaja’s letter on a speech made by PML-N MNA Capt (r) Safdar, who is related by marriage to the head of one of the major political parties of Pakistan. I would advise Mr Safdar to study the actual history of the struggle for the creation of Pakistan instead of the distorted version that he may have read or been taught. Sir Zafarullah Khan was a close associate of the Quaid-e-Azam, who supported the struggle and views of the Quaid, while others like the Jamiat-Ulem-e-Hind, the Unionists and politicians like Maulana Azad opposed him and supported either Congress or, even worse, wanted the British Raj to continue ruling the Subcontinent forever.
While I respect Safdar for he represents a constituency, his unfortunate views are devoid of facts. Our tragedy is that we have distorted even our freedom struggle and those who opposed Pakistan’s creation are painted as heroes today.--------------------------
We can differ with the religious beliefs of Sir Zafarullah Khan but we cannot ignore the extraordinary services he rendered during and after the freedom movement. It would serve Pakistan well if our politicians became aware of the actual facts concerning the role of pioneer leaders of our country before passing judgments.

This refers to Hafsa Khawaja’s letter in response to Capt (r) Safdar’s speech in Lalamusa. First and foremost, we should get rid of the sickening habit of adopting and accepting children of politicians – the Bilawals, the Sharifs, the Chaudhrys and the Walis – as natural heirs to the throne. Coming back to the this politician of the PML-N, his only qualification is that he is the husband of Nawaz Sharif’s daughter, and probably thinks that this status gives him the licence to malign anyone without any knowledge of history.
He termed the late Sir Zafarullah Khan’s appointment as foreign minister the first conspiracy against Pakistan. May I remind him that some real conspiracies against Pakistan were the attack on the Supreme Court building by his political party’s workers, the act of freezing bank accounts by the PML-N government in the name of saving Pakistan, and supporting the most corrupt regime in the history of Pakistan, which the PML-N has been doing for the last four years.

After going through Hafsa Khawaja’s letter, I could only say that the PML-N must issue a disclaimer, disassociating itself from the views expressed by Capt (r) Safdar. Unfortunately, conspiracy theorists and hate-spewing individuals have always cast aspersions on the loyalties of minorities of Pakistan. The fact is many individuals belonging to minorities have greatly contributed towards the welfare of Pakistan in the fields of defence, science, sports and academics.
Mr Safdar owes an apology to the nation for his remarks against Sir Zafarullah. As for his support for Mumtaz Qadri, the lesser said the better.
