An elderly Ahmadi Muslim man was shot dead today in Nawab Shah, Sindh, Pakistan.
Mr. Akram Chaudhry was killed due to his faith, it was learned from a press statement issued by the Ahmadiyya Muslim community of Pakistan.
According to the details made public, Mr Chaudhry and his grandson were returning home from a market visit and as they approached the entrance of their home they were indiscriminately shot at by anonymous men riding motorcycles.
Mr Chaudhry died on the spot and his grandson, Munib Ahmad, was seriously injured from the gunshot wounds.
Young Ahmad, 18, was taken to hospital where he is reported in a very serious condition.
Mr Chaudhry, who had recently returned from Australia, was 80 years old and had no known personal animosities, it was reported.
Nawab Shah has been the scene of Ahmadi target killing in the recent past when destrict president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, Seth Mohammad Yousaf, had fallen victim to assassins’ bullets in September 2008.
Seth yousuf’s killers have not been apprehended to date.
In 2008, Seth Yousuf,s murder on September 9 and the murder of Dr Abdul Mannan Siddiqui of nearby Mirpur Khas, a day before, on September 8, were incited by a religious hate program conducted by the Pakistani TV Host Aamir Liaquat Hussain, the media and various human rights organizations have continuously speculated.
Aamir Liaquat Hussain and the TV channel, Geo, had denied that declaring Ahmadis 'worthy of death' in their anti-Ahmadiyya broadcast could have caused the murder of two Ahmadi leaders.
The members of Ahmadiyya Muslim community are being targeted in Pakistan with a nationwide hate campaign by several militant and extremist organizations who have joined hands under the banner of banned terrorist outfits such as JamÄ'at-ud Dawwa (JuD), Laskar-e Jhangvi (LeJ), and Lashkar-e Tayebba (LeT).
Many of the extremist groups are continuously and openly patronized by Pakistani politicians and biased media outlets.
