Kotli, Azad Kashmir: Dr Shah Mohammad Javed and his son who were kidnapped and taken hostage several months ago, have been released and united with their family.

The online newspaper Kotli News reported high official of the government worked strenuously to locate the father-son victims and arranged their release.

Dr. Javed, a medical surgeon at Kotli District Headquarter Hospital, and his 11 years old son, Fahad, were kidnapped from their home in Sadiqabad area of Kotli about four months ago.

A few days after the kidnapping, according to Kotli News, Dr Javed was heard from requesting kidnappers’ demand be met.

The contact with the kidnappers remained open during the ordeal.

According to the sources familiar with the case, Dr Javed and his son were released in Bunnu, a district of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan and the the two have reached Rawalpindi where they  have been united with the rest of their family members.

The family did not speculate how the release was negotiated.

At the time of his kidnapping, Dr. Shah was due to travel abroad, it was reported.

Dr. Shah, an office holder and local leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community in Kotli, had been a target of threats by the extremist Mullahs of the area.

At the time of the crime, the police were first reluctant to investigate the kidnapping, it was reported.

“The police were showing the least possible interest to search for the father and son,” a family member was reported to have complained to the Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) of Pakistan.

The police said, according to AHRC statement at the time, that since Dr Javed belonged to the Ahmadiyya sect he has obviously been abducted by Muslim fundamentalists and it will be impossible to find him.

It took rallies and protests by doctors and local citizens to get the local police in action and start looking for the victims.
