Indonesia: Ministry of Religious Affairs flooded with foreign inquiries about Ahmadiyya | Official

JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar, says he has received many inquiries from abroad related to the biases against the Ahmadiyah community in Indonesia.

Foreigners are requesting clarification from the Indonesian government because they say Indonesia is committing genocide of the Ahmadiyya community, Nasaruddin reportedly said.

''Letters from abroad say they hold us responsible. Because their is a general perception, it seems, that Ahmadiyahs are being destroyed in Indonesia,'' said Nasaruddin after speaking at the international conference on the “Religion in Public Spaces in Contemporary Southeast Asia” that was held in Jakarta, on Tuesday, March 13th.

Nasaruddin claimed the government of Indonesia always provides protection to minorities.

"Not only the Ahmadis but also other minority groups in Indonesia; we believe, they all have the same rights as the majority,'' he claimed.

Nasaruddin further claimed the ongoing issues of Ahmadiyah have been properly and successfully managed which had been enlarged just from trivial problems.

"Therefore, there is a never-ending efforts of the government to continue to bridge this problem,'' he was reported to have said.

The US Department of State and rights groups around the world have issued repeated condemnation of the persecution of minorities, specially the Ahmadiyah community.

H.E. Mackenzie Clugston, Ambassador of Canada, who was in attendance at the event, exonerated the Indonesian government of any responsibility, stating he was satisfied with the efforts made with respect to protecting Ahmadiyas.

Canadian Ambassador praised the efforts that have been associated with the Indonesian government's handling of the Ahmadiyya issue, it was reported by Republica.

H.E. Clugston said  there are a number of politicians in his country who follow the Ahmadiyya issue.

''But we see Indonesia has been handling it peacefully,'' he said.
