Paris will welcome back the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association of Canada (AMYA) this weekend for another afternoon of informative lessons on the Islam religion.
The County of Brant Public Library Paris branch will host the group of Muslim youth on Saturday, March 24, 2012 from noon to 4 p.m.
The non-profit charitable religious organization established in over 200 countries, with 65 chapters within Canada, will present “Shari’a, the misunderstood Islamic Law” on Saturday.
“After visiting nearly 600 homes in Paris, over 100 people said they’d be happy to ask questions about Shari’a and learn what it’s all about,” said Rizwan Rabbani, AMYA’s national executive director.
“People in Paris are very responsive and want to know more.”
Shari’a law is the moral code and religious law of Islam. It stems from two primary sources, one being the Holy Qur’an and the other from the Islamic prophet Muhammad. The goal of “Shari’a, the misunderstood Islamic Law” information session and open house is to promote religious harmony, dispel misconceptions about Islam and to educate people about the Shari’a law and the west.
AMYA has come to Paris on two different occasions since the summer of 2011, where they’ve prepared presentations on the Holy Qur’an and a tribute to the Mother Mary. Before and after the two open houses, youth from AMYA canvassed surrounding areas within town and throughout other parts of the country to relay a positive message about their religion and to answer any questions.
“Every religion has a law – but you cannot impose that law onto the land or the people,” Rabbani said.
“Don’t judge Islam by people, but rather judge people by Islam.”
The AYMA is an auxiliary wing of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. Their nationwide campaign is to promote peace, condemn terrorism and dispel myths about Islam. In the past 14 months, the group of youth has visited over 300,000 homes throughout Canada.
“Islam is a flexible, peace loving and peace making religion and we’re there to promote religious harmony,” Rabbani said.
