In referring to Aries Musnandar’s letter “Don’t look at Islam with prejudice” published in The Jakarta Post on Feb. 27, I fully agree that Islam should be learned without prejudice and there should be mutual discussions held to find the truth.
However, I would beg to differ that “The Ahmadiyah teaching is an insult to Islam”. They should be given the freedom of expression. First of all, it should be understood that true Islam was revealed to Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him). This is, also, crucial to recognize that being in the mainstream does not automatically make one right, or vice versa.
So, why should a belief always be seen through the spectacles of a majority? Why not go directly to the original sources of Islam — the Holy Koran, as the actions and sayings of Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him)?
While differences may exist about the personality of the Promised Messiah, all Muslims believe that Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) is the best of all prophets!
