Second murder in two weeks, another Ahmadi Muslim man fell victim to target killing during broad daylight hours in Pakistan, it has been reported.
The killing took place in Nawab Shah, also known as Shahed Benazirabad, a town situated 125 miles northeast of Karachi, in the Sindh province of Pakistan.
Mr. Maqsood Ahmad, a resident of Rabwah, Punjab, was gunned down between 2 to 3 PM on Wednesday while on a business visit to Nawab Shah, it was reported in a press release issued by the Ahmadiyya Muslim community of Pakistan.
According to the press release, unknown assailants stopped Maqsood Ahmad in the busy Mohni bazaar and shot him point blank.
Due to the fatal injuries received Maqsood Ahmad died on the spot, it was reported.
Maqsood Ahmad was 58 years old.
After any routine legal formalities, the body will be brought to Rabwah where he will be buried, it was said.
Further according to the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, Maqsood Ahmad was a resident of Rabwah but regularly travelled to Nawab Shah for his work.
According to the victim's wife, Maqsood Ahmad had received death threats from unknown people and one of his clients was also threatened to stop dealing with him, it was disclosed.
The incident comes at the heels of another Ahmadi Muslim’s target killing in Nawab Shah recently where, two weeks ago, an 80 year old Ahmadi Muslim Chaudhary Muhammad Akram sahib was also murdered in a similar attack, it was previously reported by Ahmadiyya Times.
According to the statement by the Pakistan’s Ahmadiyya Muslim community “the state has decided to turn a blind eye towards the deteriorating security situation for Ahmadis in Pakistan.”
“The fact that this is the area of Mrs. Faryal Talpur and President Asif Ali Zardari,” says the community, “speak volumes about how much the government is serious about providing security to vulnerable Ahmadis.”
“It is not the first such incident as few days back another Ahmadi was murdered in the same fashion,” the community pointed out in its statement.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim community representative called again upon the government “to realise it duty towards the innocent peaceful citizens of Pakistan who are facing harsh times at the hands of militants.”
“It is important to repeat that violent assaults against Ahmadis are carried out in the name of religion are all too often premeditated and well organized,” the statemet read. “The government should realise that such incidents are not building a very bright or positive image of Pakistan.”
The town of Nawab Shah was renamed to Shaheed Benazirabad to honor the former Pakistani prime minister Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto who was murdered in a target killing attack by militants.
Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was the wife of current president of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari and Mrs Faryal Talpur is the president's sister.
