PATERSON — A national atheist group embarking on a widespread outreach campaign is placing a billboard calling Islam a myth, just two blocks from a mosque, according to a report published by Northjersey.com.

The billboard, which will be placed on Monday, is costing American Atheists $15,000 to post for a month. The slogan says "You know it's a myth... and you have a choice" in both Arabic and English. The sign is going to be located at the intersection of 33rd Street and Broadway, two block from the Islamic Center of Passaic County.

Other billboards carrying the same message are going up in other religious neighborhoods across the country, the atheist group says. Another notable sign will carry the same slogan in Hebrew and English in a predominantly Jewish neighborhood in Brooklyn.

The Paterson mosque's outreach director said the atheist group has the right to express its beliefs, and said he did not consider it an attack on Islam.
