WAMU had reported in early February that police wasn't sure whether the act was a hate crime -- but they said the vandal “took their time … going around the whole of the building and smashing all the windows."

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. Police have arrested and charged a man they believe to be responsible for distruction of a Fairfax County mosque in January, it has been reported by Natalie Lopez of NBC 4 News Washington (WAMU) on Friday, May 11, 2012.
An 18 years old, Trenton M. Carter of Centreville, was charged with felony destruction of property for vandalizing the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community's under-construction mosque on 4555 Ahmadiyya Drive in Chantilly, police said.
The mosque was vandalized either late January 29 or early January 30th and police say the investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are still possible.
Police said Carter broke out windows of a mosque under construction and caused an estimated $170,000 to $200,000 worth of damage.
The FBI also joined the investigation a few days later.
According to 9 News Now (WUSA), investigators found alcoholic beverage bottles on the scene and determined some bottles were used to break out the windows, along with large concrete blocks and wooden planks.
No one seemed to have entered the building during the vandalism, Fairfax Police spokesman Officer Don Gotthardt said, according to NBC Washington.
WAMU had reported in early February that police wasn't sure whether the act was a hate crime -- but they said the vandal “took their time … going around the whole of the building and smashing all the windows."
