Kumasi, Sept 3, GNA - Maulvi Dr Abdul Wahab Adam, Ameer and Missionary- in charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Ghana, has appealed to the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct itself in a manner that would not give cause for any suspicion or bias.
He said the EC should create a level playing field for all political parties in the December elections and it must be seen to be transparent because it is by so doing that the peace of the nation, credibility and integrity of the polls would be assured.
Maulvi Dr. Wahab Adam was speaking at the 33rd annual national conference of Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Organization in Kumasi.
The three-day meeting was under the theme “Ensuring free, fair and transparent elections, the role of the youth.”
More than 3,000 young people from across the country attended.
The Ameer said the EC had high reputation and enviable international record of organizing successful elections in the past and this must be sustained.
He appealed to political parties and all stakeholders including the youth to be mindful of their conduct to help prevent confusion and mayhem before, during and after the polls.
Maulvi Wahab Dr. Adam reminded the Muslim youth that Islam stood for peace and submission to the “will of God” and it was therefore unacceptable for them to be violent and lawless.
Mr Samuel Tettey, Ashanti Regional Director of the EC, appealed to all registered voters to check their data at the biometric voter exhibition centres.
Mr Abass Bin Wilson, National President of the Organization, appealed to the members to discharge their civic and social responsibilities in line with the teachings of Islam.
