Dubbed as “Walk For Humanity,” the nation’s leading Muslim youth organization held a successful walkathon Saturday at Liberty State Park overlooking the Hudson river in New York.

Enjoying the great view of Lower Manhattan skyline, nearly a thousand participants walked to promote the true spirit of the Islamic faith and character of the Prophet Muhammad (on whom be peace) by raising funds that would benefit several charities.

Similar walkathons were held this weekend in Washington, DC and Zion, Chicago, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association USA, has announced.

The funds raised from this year's walkathons are earmarked for three major organizations; Humanity First USA, WhyHunger, and the Boys & Girls Club of Lake County, it was disclosed in a press release issued by Humanity First USA.

"The goal of Walk for Humanity is to raise funds for organizations that strive to save lives and improve quality of life of individuals and families," says Walk for Humanity website. "Through Walk for Humanity, families in cities all across America will receive funding for soup kitchens and social projects..."
"As the leading Muslim youth organization in America, we aim to make a positive social impact and help those in need," the website further asserts.

Several participants promoted the New York walkathon through social media as well.

One of the event coordinator and an active Tweeter, Saira Nizami (@sainiz), had started to got the word out on Twitter to 'Walk for Humanity' fans on Friday introducing the '#Walk4Humanity' hash-tag.

Maudood Bhatti, another avid Twitter user (@maudoodbhatti) constantly updated the walkathon status on social media with the #Walk4Humanity hash-tag.

The hash-tag history showed many keen observers from all over the world engaged to cheer the participants.

“Thank God, it was a great success as people came from far to participate,” said Bhatti, who traveled with his family to participate in the walkathon. “It didn't rain either and the weather was great too.”

Bhatti says participants walked a total distance of approximately 3 miles on the walkway next to the Hudson River covering approximately 1.5 miles each way.

Saira Nizami was instrumental in registering dozens of women participants in the walkathon, and along with her brother Faizan, the pair distributed cold drinks to the participants throughout the event.

Dr. Kashif Chaudhry, Salaam Bhatti, and Ahmad Chaudhry were among the Muslim youth leaders responsible for putting together the walkathon at Liberty State Park, it was reported.
