India: Anti-Ahmadi forces likely at root of attempted cyber-mischief in Qadian

The Ahmadiyas who are spread across the world have their headquarters at Qadian in Punjab. Hence the place is as dear to them as to anyone else. It is difficult to accept that anyone amongst them will resort to such a provocative act.

Qadian incident is a deliberate mischief; non-Qadianis role not ruled out, locals have assessed

CHANDIGARH: The recent sacrilegious incident attributed to an Ahmadiya youth appears to be rooted in the intra-faith rivalry between the different sects among the Muslims. The sacrilegious post on Facebook allegedly attributed to some youth who claimed himself to be an Ahmadiya appears to have been done deliberately to create animosity between the Ahmadiya sect and Sikhs.

The incident which has caused religious tension in Qadian and Gurdaspur area is being seriously taken by the police and the local administration lest it spiral out of control. Although there has never been any communal tension in Punjab, the recent Facebook post appears to have been deliberately done to create one.

Ahmadiya community is a peace loving community which has not any record of violence or provocation. The community is entangled in a fierce intra-faith clash with the mainstream Muslim community which does not consider them (Ahmadiyas) as the Muslims. They have a history of violent clashes amongst themselves, the Ahmadiyas and the other Muslims.

The police have not been ruling out the possibility that the Facebook post was a deliberate attempt by those opposed to the Ahmadiya sect as this will lead to provocation against them. However, the saner voices from the Sikh community like the Congress and Akali leaders including Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa and Sewa Singh Sekhwan have done well by visiting the place and appealing people for peace.

The Ahmadiya community has also condemned the Facebook post. The Ahmadiya leaders have been arguing that it is a deliberate mischief by those opposed to them to create tension and animosity between them and the majority community. The Ahmadiyas who are spread across the world have their headquarters at Qadian in Punjab. Hence the place is as dear to them as to anyone else. It is difficult to accept that anyone amongst them will resort to such a provocative act.

The police also need to go deep into the issue as in all probability the investigations will lead to somewhere else. The culprits need to be identified and punished as they have tried to place with the peace in Punjab and tried to use a minority otherwise known for peaceful co-existence.
