Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, Bangladesh began its three-day annual convention on Friday in Dhaka with a call to spread the messages of the holy Quran and Prophet Hazrat Muhammad.
This year’s convention marked its centenary celebrations that kicked off on Thursday amid attacks by their Muslim rivals.
People also joined the celebration via live broadcast from the convention and stream to the world
Around 7,000 people including representatives from Australia, Canada, Germany, India, and Pakistan have joined the celebrations, said a media release.
The venue has been shifted from Gazipur’s Mouchak to Bakshibazar where the Jama’at is headquartered as the rivals torched the venue.
Some Muslim clerics consider Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, an Islamic sect, ‘non-Muslim’.
Moulana Mahmud Ahmad, special representative of the supreme head of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, opened the inauguration of the convention calling upon all to follow ‘the true Islamic teachings’.
He urged all to respect the present Imam of the Ahmadiyya movement which he said was ‘imperative’ as it was described in Sura Juma in the Holy Quran.
Bangladesh’s National Ameer Mobasherur Rahman highlighted the perspective of centenary celebrations.
He said the claim of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, founder of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, to have been the Promised Messiah is not fraudulent.
“The advent of Promised Messiah (as) was foretold by Hazrat Muhammad (sm) is true,” he said.
The Khalifa of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at will address the members of Jama’at in Bangladesh at 4pm at the concluding session on Sunday, the media release added.
Ahmadiyya Muslim Community was founded in India in 1889 and in Bangladesh it was established in 1913.
