Nearly 100 delegates participate in annual “Day on the Hill” event to Stress Importance of International Religious Freedom

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA received bipartisan support last Friday, February 15, for its third annual “Day on the Hill.”

The event drew Community leaders from over 70 chapters and 30 states.

A broad array of U.S. lawmakers were briefed by the delegates on the ongoing global persecution of religious minorities, particularly in South and Central Asia and the Middle East.

Delegates expressed particular concern over the uptick of violence against religious minorities in Pakistan and the need for Pakistan to hold fair and free elections that were inclusive of all citizens regardless of their religious background.

“As one of America’s oldest Muslim organizations," says Amjad Mahmood Khan, National Director of Public Affairs for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA and event organizer, "our Community firmly believes in the value of the democratic process.”

“Our annual ‘Day on the Hill’ event reflects our humble effort to raise awareness about protecting international religious freedom: a quintessential value shared by Islam and America,” Khan further says.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community - the only Islamic organization to believe that the long-awaited messiah has come in the person of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835-1908) of Qadian, India - is a dynamic, fast-growing international revival movement within Islam.

Founded in 1889, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community spans over 200 countries with membership exceeding tens of millions. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, established in 1920, is among the oldest American-Muslim organizations.

The Community believes that God sent Ahmad, like Jesus, to end religious wars, condemn bloodshed and reinstitute morality, justice and peace. Ahmad’s advent has brought about an unprecedented era of Islamic revival and moderation. He divested Muslims of fanatical beliefs and practices by vigorously championing Islam’s true and essential teachings
