THE Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Fiji has pleaded with Fijians who have the intention to join the Taliban to refrain.

Jamaat president Fazal Ullah Tariq said they condemned the work of the Taliban which was misguided and an act of terrorism.

Mr Tariq's comments followed reports of some Fijians recently being recruited by the Taliban.

He said since the formation of the Jamaat in 1889, they followed the motto of "love for all and hatred for none".

"Islam never taught terrorism and bloodshed," Mr Tariq said.

He said the innocent Fijians should be taught the real teachings of Islam.

"Islam means peace. Fijians should be told the right things before they are manipulated," Mr Tariq said.
