TEMPO.CO, Bandung - West Java Police Chief, Inspector General Tb. Anis Angkawijaya, says the Islamic Defender Front (FPI) was behind the attack on the Ahmadiyah community at Salawu and Singaparna sub-district in Tasikmalaya, West Java, on Sunday, May 6.
A number of homes and mosques were targets of the attack. "The FPI attacked the homes of the people. Four homes had their windows smashed," said Anis in Bandung yesterday.
West Java Police spokesperson, Grand Comr. Martinus Sitompul, said the attack was conducted by approximately 300 FPI members.
Tasikmalaya Police chief, Grand Comr. Adjutant Widjanarko said the police attempted to block the mob. "But they threw stones at the homes of the residents instead," he said.
FPI Tasikmalaya denied the accusations that they were involved in the attack. "If there were FPI members (involved), that was a personal issue, that was their right. But as an organization, the FPI were not involved," stated FPI Tasikmalaya Head, Acep Sopyan.
