Ofcom has fined Al Ehya Digital Television £85,000 for broadcasting statements that it was acceptable to murder any person thought to have shown disrespect to the Prophet Mohammed.
The statements were made on Noor TV, an Islamic channel that broadcasts in the UK and internationally, the communications regulator said.
Ofcom said: "On 17 December 2012, Ofcom found the channel in breach of the Broadcasting Code for broadcasting statements that it was acceptable, or even the duty of a Muslim, to murder any person thought to have shown disrespect to the Prophet Mohammed."
It added: "Due to the very serious nature of these breaches Ofcom has imposed a fine of £85,000."
