Tens of thousands of Ahmadi Muslims from around the world will be on hand today to witness the inauguration of the 47th Annual Convention of the UK's Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
The convention, affectionately known as Jalsa Salana, is expected to be Britain's largest Islamic gathering in Hampshire this weekend.
The organizers of Jalsa Salana say they estimate over 30,000 people will take part in the event in Alton this weekend with representatives from several dozen countries attending.
The leaders of the community will open the event by raising Union and Ahmadiyya flags followed by the Friday Sermon and prayers led by the Khalifa of Islam and the worldwide leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, His Holiness Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad.
His Holiness, Hadhrat Ahmad will address the convention on each day of the convention.
Many Christian, Jewish, Hindu and Sikh representatives along with political, community and civic leaders will be also speaking at the convention, the community says.
A new neighborhood has sprung up at the East Worldham site where dozens of marquees and tents have been erected during the last few days to hold the main program, dining areas and small bazaar with food, books and souvenir shops.
The Jalsa Salana proceeding will be broadcast live around the globe via the community's worldwide TV network, Muslim Television Ahmadiyya (MTA).
Additionally the community will provide event updates through @JalsaUK and @JalsaConnect Twitter handles.
Ahmadiyya Muslims reject the concept of violent jihad in Islam and use their meetings to highlight the plight of persecuted communities.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim community built the first London mosque, and this year they are celebrating 100 years of its establishment in Britain.
