Pakistan: Islamic Ideology Council dismisses Women Protection Act 2006


The sources said that the council observed the law against the registration of fake FIRs already existed and it should also be implemented against the registration of fake blasphemy cases.

ISLAMABAD: The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) dismissing the Women Protection Act 2006, recommended to re-examine the act.

A meeting of CII was held with its chairman Maulama Muhammad Khan Shirani in the chair. The meeting reviewed the Women Protection Act 2006.

According to the sources, the members of the council said that the act is controversial in which various clauses of the act are against Quran and Sunnah.

The sources said that the council observed the law against the registration of fake FIRs already existed and it should also be implemented against the registration of fake blasphemy cases.

Sources further said that a member of the council Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi said that there is no need to amend blasphemy law, however, he added that the Ulema wanted to put stop on its misuse.
