With the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks approaching, the Greater Boston chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is sponsoring four blood drives this month to honor 9/11 victims.
The first takes place Tuesday from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Victory Assembly of God, 67 High Plain St., in Sharon.
Additional drives are planned at the Canton Public Library, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, and at Fenway Park and Faneuil Hall on Sept. 11.
Masroor Ahmad Sajid, chapter spokesman for the minority sect of Islam, said the local effort is part of the group’s third annual nationwide Muslims for Life campaign, which aims to collect 12,000 pints of blood.
People of all backgrounds are invited to participate. According to the campaign website, muslimsforlife.org, the event hopes both to honor 9/11 victims and to demonstrate that Islam teaches sanctity of life.
