The interfaith blood drive is from 11 to 2 p.m. today.

A local mosque attended by Centreville Muslims will host a blood drive today in Chantilly.

The Muslims for Life Blood Drive will be held from 11 to 2 p.m. at the Mubarak Mosque at 4555 Ahmadiyya Drive, said Pal Fouzan, public relations secretary for the Central Virginia Chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

The blood drive is just one of several being held around the nation between Aug. 11 and Oct. 11 by Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, he said.

The goal of the community is to collect 12,000 pints of blood, which can save some 36,000 lives.  To date the group has collected 11,170 pints of blood, according to its Website.

The blood drives are held in honor of the victims of both the Sept. 11 attacks and the Boston Marathon bombing.

The blood drive campaign purposes to emphasize the sanctity of life, a teaching inherent in all religious traditions, Fouzan added.

Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA is a part of the larger, worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, described by believers as a dynamic, reformist international movement within Islam existing in more than 200 countries. It was founded in 1889.
