The Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) lent a hand with charity collecting at one of London’s busiest station.
Ten members of the group from Kingston and New Malden, raised money for CLIC Sargent at Paddington Station on last Saturday (19th October 2013).
CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, and their families. They provide clinical, practical, financial and emotional support to help them cope with cancer and get the most out of life. They are there from diagnosis onwards and aim to help the whole family deal with the impact of cancer and its treatment, life after treatment, and in some cases, bereavement.
CLIC Sargent worked in conjunction with the AMYA at their Charity challenge earlier this year at Milton Keynes. It is an annual event which local members of the AMYA have been taking part in since 1985.
Saturday's collection was done as part of ongoing bucket collections is stores and stations in the month of October. AMYA members from Kingston and New Malden will be joined by other fellow members from Putney and Wimbledon to liaise with CLIC Sargent to undertake further collections next week, with altogether 50 volunteers participating.
‘The Retros’, a volunteer band affectively helped and assisted in more crowds and more collection. The band enlightened the mood in the station with their music, attracting many children, youth, and elderly to show off their dancing skills. The collection took place between 12:00pm till 5:30pm. Over £400 were collected on the day for CLIC Sargent.
Ahmad Hassan, the AMYA spokesman from New Malden said: “The mood was bright as we all were willing to strive for one common purpose: helping the less fortunate. The boys really had a good time collecting for the charity and it was a fun and memorable day. "
