The Book sellers and publishers association of South India have held the Chennai Book Fair for the past 37 years where the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission’s Chennai Chapter has been a member and has taken part in the Fair for the past 25 years, which makes it the longest running participation by a Muslim stall, involved since 1990.
Chennai is the new name of Madras the capitol city of the state of Tamil Nadu in South India.
This year’s fair was organized at the YMCA Grounds at Nandanam, Mount Road, Chennai from the 10th till the 22nd of January.
Some 750 stalls were setup by various leading book publishers and sellers; government and religious organizations from the southern states of India.
During the 13 days event, apart from the bookstalls, there were cultural programs and various competitions were conducted every day. The fair attracted more than 200,000 visitors.
7 different Muslim denominations participated, each separately, in the fair by installing their stalls.
The Ahmadiyya stall focused more on highlighting certain books, such as, Life of Muhammed, The World Crisis and The Pathway to Peace, and the Holy Quran in many languages including Tamil, English, Telugu, and Malayalam.
Many dignitaries visited our stall which included writers, government officials, politicians, Cine Directors and TV fame personalities. TV Channels such as Win TV, Sun Music, etc also made coverage of the Ahmadiyya stall.
Apart from non-Muslims, non-Ahmadi Muslims and their scholars also visited the stall in more numbers compared to previous years.
