More than 200 men, women and children gathered to hear senior politicians and religious leaders speak about the importance of promoting harmony within communities.
The Bradford branch of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association held its annual Peace Conference yesterday, Sunday, with the theme ‘Blessed Are The Peacemakers.’
The keynote speaker was Lord Tariq Ahmad who travelled from London to speak about the importance of communities working together to bring peace and harmony to the city.
He said those communities keeping their own identity, without that leading to fragmentation, was the challenge.
Other prominent guests at the Al-Mahdi Mosque in Rees Way, Undercliffe, included Bradford MPs Gerry Sutcliffe and David Ward and TUC president Mohammed Taj.
Dr Mohammed Iqbal, president of the Association for Bradford North, said the organisation was celebrating its centenary this year and would be holding many events to mark the occasion.
