Chappals (slippers) with the symbol of 'OM' were found being sold in one of the markets of Pakistan, it was reported by news media.

The chapplas with 'Om' sign were discovered being sold in the town of Mirpur in Sindh Provence where a large number of Hindu population resides.

India Today, a news website said 'Om' or 'Aum' is of paramount importance in Hinduism.

According to Wikipedia, it is a mantra and mystical Sanskrit sound of Hindu origin which is sacred and important in various Dharmic religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Sanatana Dharma and Jainism. .

While many journalist in Pakistan have condemned the circulation of shoes with Hinduism’s most sacred mantra, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), which politically controls Sindh, immediately attempted to shift the blame.

PPP claimed the shoes were likely manufactured in the Punjab province and demanded Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif immediately order sealing of the concerned factory.

PPP further wanted  a stop on "manufacturing of such disgraceful products and strong action against the culprits."

There were no reports of independent confirmation that shoes were manufactured in the Punjab. Karachi also serves as a significant manufacturing hub for Pakistani products.
