Perspective: Boko Haram’s version of Islam isn’t real | Letter

Islam doesn't just allow the education of women, but actively demands the education of our women; the Prophet Muhammad once stated, “It is incumbent on every Muslim man and woman to seek knowledge.”

Yet again, a terrorist organization defaces the beautiful religion of Islam with their heinous actions. This time we are in Nigeria, where so-called “Muslims” from Boko Haram abducted 276 schoolgirls because they claim Islam disallows the education of women. You can read that over and over again because I can’t wrap my head around the logic behind this.

As a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, I am right there with the international outcry to #BringBackOurGirls. Islam doesn't just allow the education of women, but actively demands the education of our women; the Prophet Muhammad once stated, “It is incumbent on every Muslim man and woman to seek knowledge.”

I pray that these girls return safely and these terrorists are brought to justice.
