TWENTY young Halesowen Muslims helped raise hundreds of thousands of pounds in a 10k charity run and walk in London.

The group from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association were among volunteers from across the country who took part in the Mercy for Mankind event at Battersea Park.

They also held various fundraising events in schools, football grounds and supermarkets leading up to the event.

Organisers said several hundred thousand pounds were raised which will be divided between a dozen UK charities.

Fareed Ahmad, the association’s charity co-ordinator for Halesowen, said: “Glorious weather, amazing charities, fantastic participants and a beautiful venue all made the Mercy for Mankind run a thoroughly enjoyable event.”

Among those present were the Secretary of State for International Development, Justine Greening and former England football goalkeeper, Peter Shilton, a charity patron.
