MISSISSAUGA — Justin Trudeau, leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, will speak at the 38th Ahmadiyya Muslim Annual Convention tomorrow afternoon.
The three-day convention, one of the biggest religious gatherings in the GTA region, started this afternoon at the International Centre in Mississauga after Friday prayers.
Every year, close to 20,000 people attend the event.
“The main purpose of this convention is the spiritual revival of the community and rejuvenating the faith,” said Kashif Ahmad, spokesperson of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at Canada AMJ.
The event also aims to educate other faith community members about Islam and removing common misconceptions about the religion.
The annual convention, held annual in venues around the world including Toronto, offers an opportunity for community members to network and get together, but also to know about Ahmadiyya Muslims and their faith.
Ahmad said the convention also serves the purpose of spreading the message of Islam and helping Canadian Muslims tackle contemporary challenges in their everyday lives.
Keynote speakers include religious scholars and dignitaries.
Liberal leader Justin Trudeau Trudeau will meet the participants and give his remarks Saturday at around 3:30 p.m.
A large number of federal, provincial, municipal politicians and dignitaries are also expected to take part in the three-day event.
Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion will be also honoured with the Zafrulla Khan Award for her years of distinguished services to the community.
