BRYAN/COLLEGE STATION - In honor of the September 11th anniversary coming up, a group of A&M students is collecting blood donations that can save lives.

This is the fourth annual Muslims for Life blood drive these students have participated in, and the second one held on the A&M campus.

The drive is part of an initiative by Muslim community groups around the United States to commemorate the lives lost during September 11th, nationally collecting 33,000 pints of blood.

Blood collected here goes straight to the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center for distribution. Not only does the drive help save lives, but it also raises awareness of misconceptions held about the Islamic faith.

"Some people equate terrorism and Islam in the same boat," says Hassan Mahmood, president of the Ahmadiya Muslim Student Association. "And the idea is to kinda reverse the idea in people's minds that Islam is about taking blood and killing people, when in fact, it's about giving blood and saving people."

If you missed it Monday, you still have chances to donate blood.

The collection event continues Tuesday, August 26th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the A&M Memorial Student Center's Respect Lounge, and again on September 11th and 12th at the same times.
