The murder of British aid worker David Haines has been condemned by members of a Muslim group in Aldersot.

A video of Mr Haines being beheaded by an Islamic State (ISIS) militant with a British accent was posted online at the weekend and was described by prime minister David Cameron as the work of "monsters".

Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community UK Aldershot branch this week voiced their horror at the actions, committed supposedly in the name of Islam, stating that they "categorically reject extremists".

Sameea Jonnud, a member of the Aldershot group, said: "I know that Aldershot members are horrified at the murder and also the fact that British Muslims, who should share the same values we do, are taking part in these atrocities.

"Loyalty to Britain should be more important to them as Islam actually teaches loyalty to the country you live in.

"Aldershot branch members, following the true teachings of Islam, believe that all Muslims should be loyal to Britain and engage with the community and the world in a positive way.

"The death of David Haines was especially sad as he was in Syria to help those in need which is something we in the Ahmadiyya Association also believe strongly in and try to practice."

The group's motto is Love for All, Hatred for None. This was promoted at the annual Jalsa Salana convention, held in Alton last month, which closely followed the murders of American journalists Steven Sotloff and James Foley, also by ISIS.

Rafiq Hayat, national president of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community UK, said the murder was a "horrific act of evil".

The Aldershot Ahmadiyya group members are located in the wider Aldershot area and hold regular fundraisers to support causes in the area, such as local foodbanks, as well as worldwide relief efforts.
