This Thursday marks the 13th anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Students Association at Texas A&M University is holding a two-day blood drive this week to honor the victims.

It's the third year the local organization has held the drive. Muslim chapters across the U.S. during that time have held 906 blood drives and collected 33 thousand bags of blood. They collected 58 bags last year and hope to surpass that number this year.

Hassan Mahmood says their organization not only wants to help save lives, but try and reverse the stigma some people have about the Muslim community. Mahmood says, "To try and reverse a little bit of the nemesism around Islam and try to explain to people that life is sacred in Islam in a central part of Islam. We want people to give up any misconceptions they have that Islam is all about killing and taking lives when in fact it's about giving life and helping your fellow human beings."

The " Muslims for Life" Blood Drive will be held this Thursday and Friday from 10am until 3pm at the Memorial Student Center on the Texas A&M campus. The blood donations will benefit the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center.
