A worldwide Islamic Caliph (Khalifa) is to deliver a keynote address at the 11th National Peace Symposium before an international audience of Secretaries of State, Ambassadors, faith representatives and civic leaders to counter the growing concern of extremism worldwide.
The clarion call for peace will be made by His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Khalifa of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community on Saturday 8 November at the landmark Baitul Futuh Mosque in south London.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Caliphate has been in existence for more than 100 years and for the last 30 years it has been based in London. The timely symposium entitled 'Khilafat, Peace and Justice' brings together faiths, denominations and cross-party delegates to tackle head on the issue of Khilafat and its role in the world today.
"The horrific acts of extremists trouble us greatly, not only because of their barbaric cruelty but also because they defame the name of Islam. As Muslims it is our duty to remind people of the true and peaceful nature of Islam. In fact all religions taught peace as can be seen from the lives of all prophets," said His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad.
"Spiritual leaders or Khalifas, if they are true to their faith, can therefore never engage in violence. I call upon all good natured people to unite against hate and through prayer and perseverance work to bring peace to the world. "
"One hundred years on from the First World War as we pray for those who gave their lives for their country, it is our duty to honour their memory by striving for peace, so that their sacrifices do not go in vain."
The symposium will also feature a press conference with His Holiness.
Rafiq Hayat, President Ahmadiyya Muslim Community UK said, "From Canada to the Middle East the cold blooded killings by ISIS and others have highlighted the issue of extremism and questioned the role of khilafat. This timely conference seeks to explore the divergence between the myth and reality of the concept of true khilafat."
During the symposium, the Khalifa will also present the Ahmadiyya Muslim Prize for the Advancement of Peace, which was launched in 2009, to Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow, founder and Chief executive of Mary's Meals, for his outstanding work to provide food and education to children across the developing world.
