More than 500 volunteers of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association (AMA) Australia including men, women, young and old participated in annual Red Cross Calling Appeal 2015 in March, raising a total amount of AUD $19,021 from all across the country. The Association raised AUD $11,800 last year in the same door knock appeal, which shows a significant rise in funds raised and volunteer efforts made.
Robert Tickner, CEO for the Australian Red Cross, appreciated the Association’s partnership with the Red Cross and said,
“All of our work relies heavily on the generosity of people like members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association who donate to Red Cross. We are particularly grateful for your amazing contribution to Red Cross Calling this year. Please keep up the good work.”
“Our community passionately participates in Red Cross Calling and Red Cross blood donations each year and the partnership is growing stronger and stronger with every passing year. The community raised more than $11,000 last year in the door knock appeal and I’m being told that, since January this year, our members have saved more than 130 lives by donating around 46 pints of blood from all over the country. Saving lives and serving humanity is what our religion Islam teaches us.”
Members from all over Australia, including Perth and Tasmania, took to the streets for the Door Knock appeal and put up stalls at various shopping centres in their vicinity. State-wise, The Ahmadiyya Muslim Association NSW stood first, raising $8770.95, whilst Victoria came second raising $4261.35 and Queensland third with $3120.50. Members at their workplaces and schools raised most of the funds. $1300 were raised by a member of the Lajna Immaillah from Sydney (the Women’s Association), whilst a member of the Ansarullah (Association for Men aged above 40) from Victoria reported raising $1,400 single-handedly.
