The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Glen Ellyn Chapter in Chicago joined Sierra Leone Muslim Jamaat (SLMJ) of Chicago to celebrate Sierra Leone's 54th independence day.
The celebration took place on May 1, 2015 at Bait-ul Jammay Mosque and the event was hosted by Glenn Ellyn Chapter of the Ahmadiya Muslim Community.
In their opening remarks, Mustapha Konneh, Social Secretary of SLMJ, and Ibrahim Kamara, Secretary General of SLMJ, the two speakers introduced the event.
Representing the host community, Imam Shamshad A. Nasir welcomed the audience in his opening address and highlighted his great experience in Sierra Leone during the period 1982-1986.
National Anthem of Sierra Leaon was also played and a message from Sierra Leone's Ambassador to the US, Mr. Brockarie Steven was read by Mr. Iqbal Karim, the president of the Sierra Leone community.
In his message, Ambassador Steven praised the program and mentioned the services of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community in Sierra Leone.
Mr. Munim Naeem, Chairman Humanity First - USA also shed light on the services of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Sierra Leone and how efforts have been made for Ebola Relief.
Audience were urged to donate for Sierra Leone Ebola relief and may donations were collected on the spot.
The program ended on a note of thanks to the host followed by silent prayer led by Imam Sheik Mohamad Kallon and a Christian prayer.
Dinner was served to all present.
POSTSCRIPT: Afterwards Imam Shamshad A Nasir received letters from Mr. Iqbal Karim, President SMLJ, thanking for the donations and services they have received from Humanity First and Ahmdiyya Muslim Community Glen Ellyn Chapter.
Mr. Iqbal Karim wrote: "On behalf of the Sierra Leone Muslim Jamaat (SLMJ), the Sierra Leoneans’ community and myself, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you (Imam Shamshad), the Ahmaddiya Muslim Community (The Baet-ul-Jaamay Mosque) and Humanity first for your generosity and hospitality that you exhibited in hosting us for our Independence Day Celebration and the Ebola Relief Drive on May 1, 2015."
"Your steadfastness in our community and country is to say the least about your commitment to diversity and development for all humanity. Through your generous donation of $1,871.00 the Sierra Leone Muslim Jamaat and several other Sierra Leoneans’ organization will be able to contribute to the shipment of drugs and food to Ebola victims in Sierra Leone, and continue its goal of furthering Islamic education among its members, and others in our community.

"Thank you once again for your support in this worthy cause."
In a separate letter Mr Iqbal Karim talked about the donations received and thanked the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community for the contribution to the Ebola Relief cause.
Mr Iqbal Karim wrote: Thank you for your generous contribution of $1,871.00 to the EBOLA Relief Fund through the Sierra Leone Muslim Jamaat of Chicago. A special thank you to Humanity First for their generous donation of $1,250.00, of which $250.00 was Mr. Naeem personal donation, and with your relentless effort we were able to raise an additional $621.00 of which $400.00 came from the Masjid and $221.00 from donations collected during the program."
"With your generous donation the EBOLA Relief Fund drive which include the Sierra Leone Muslim Jamaat in Chicago and several other independent Sierra Leonean organizations will be able to contribute to the shipment of drugs and food to Ebola victims in Sierra Leone, and continue its effort to provide much needed help to eliminate the possibility of food shortage or starvation in the coming months of post Ebola.
"Once again your patronage has made it possible for the Sierra Leonean community in Chicago and the Ahmaddiya Muslim community to respond to the dire needs of medical and financial support for our devastated country in hopes of attaining a healthy environment and the well-being of the people.
"Thank you again for your support in this worthy cause."
