Pakistan: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Fazl leader Mufti Kifayatullah arrested for hate speech


The conference was organized by the infamous anti-Ahmadiyya cleric and member of the Punjab Parliament, Mullah Ilyas Chanioti, of the ruling political party, Pakistan Muslim League -Nawaz Group.

CHINIOT: Authorities on Thursday arrested senior Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) leader Mufti Kifayatullah for delivering a hate speech, sources said on Thursday.

According to ARY TV news, Kifayatullah was taken into custody from Masjid Siddique-e Akbar in Chaniot where he was invited to speak at a conference.

The conference was organized by the infamous anti-Ahmadiyya cleric and member of the Punjab Parliament, mullah Ilyas Chanioti, of the the ruling political party, Pakistan Muslim League -Nawaz Group.

Siddique-e Akbar mosque in Chaniot, according to ARY TV news, is central to mullah Chanioti's preaching activities and he leads prayers and delivers his Friday sermons there.

"Mufti Kifayatullah has been shifted to an undisclosed location by the counter-terrorism department (CTD) of Punjab," GEO TV news has reported.

The report of arrest comes when federal government and the military leadership has expressed the resolve to implement National Action Plan (NAP) that also calls for an end to hate speech, Geo TV further noted.
