Members of a Hawthorne mosque targeted by vandals this week are inviting the public to join them for prayers on Friday.
The Baitus Salaam Mosque, at 13221 Prairie Ave., was vandalized on Sunday when someone spray-painted "Jesus" and crosses on the building, and left a toy hand grenade inside. Friday's sermon will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will be followed by a 2 p.m. tour for the public.
"We are relieved that no one was hurt, and maintain our open-door policy at our mosque to dialogue with and educate the public on the true teachings of Islam," said Jalaluddin Ahmad, president of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Los Angeles West chapter that worships at the mosque. "Such extremism will not scare us into locking our mosques; rather we will open the doors wider to educate all."
