Days after the capture of Salah Abdeslam, the mastermind of the Paris attacks, ISIS took no time in avenging his capture and Brussels became their next target. With the rise of terrorism comes an escalation in suspicion and misunderstanding between communities.

Given such a volatile atmosphere, politicians like Donald Trump further incite fear and restlessness by calling the attacks in Brussels “just the beginning.” Tension must be eradicated through awareness and knowledge.

A church in Round Rock recently invited members from my Ahmadiyya Muslim community to educate them about Islam. Last Sunday, my husband and I presented on the peaceful teachings of Islam, the real meaning of jihad and the sanctity of life. Even with Easter this weekend, the church staff took this initiative to develop mutual understanding and awareness between neighborhood communities.

Interfaith dialogue is what we need as a nation to build stronger bonds within our communities.
