Dear Editor,
As a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association, my heartfelt condolences go out to all those who suffered from the Belgium attacks of March 22. Furthermore, we condemn such attacks on innocent humanity and stand by the people of Belgium by praying for the recovery of all wounded and for justice to be served to all responsible.
This act of terrorism is never justified and all who commit such acts in the name of Islam ignore and violate the basic teachings of Islam. The Holy Qur'an condemns terrorism by saying, "Whosoever kills an innocent...it is as if he has killed all of mankind" (5:33).
The perpetrators of these attacks supposedly carried them out as an act of revenge for the capture of the mastermind behind the Paris attacks, Salah Abdesalam from Brussels, Belgium. Many blame Muslims and Islamic teachings for all acts of violence; but Salah Abdesalam, who is a Muslim by name only, has history of drugs and alcohol, which are both prohibited in Islam. These acts show extreme disregard by extremists of the basic teachings of Islam.
We also take this time to bring attention to the hypocrisy of some media outlets towards many attacks in Muslim countries. This includes the recent bombings in Turkey and Pakistan where many innocents lost their lives but those were not equally regarded as were the attacks in Belgium and France. While we do not wish to compare such tragedies, it should be recognized that radicalization is a mutual enemy and act of taking innocent lives anywhere regardless of race/religion/ethnicity is a tragedy.
As always the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community stands by the people united against terrorism and finding a solution against radicalization.
