Canada: Toronto Mayor, Premier to celebrate 50th anniversary of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at in Canada

Mayor John Tory and Premier Kathleen Wynne will take part in celebrations at Nathan Phillips Square Sunday, May 8 to mark the 50th anniversary of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Canada.

Thousands of Muslims from across the GTA are expected to attend the event, which begins at 11:30 a.m.

Ahmadiyya Muslim Jana’at, an international revival movement within Islam, was founded in 1889 and was established in Canada 50 years ago.

“This is a year of great significance for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Canada,” said national president Lal Khan Malik in a news release. “We are commemorating 50 years of contribution, success and integration in Canada and look forward to celebrating this milestone with our friends and family across Toronto.”

Sunday’s celebration include congregational prayer and is expected to be the largest Muslim gathering at Nathan Phillips Square.
