Fire had swept through the Ahmadiyya Senior High School (SHS) at Fomena in the Adansi North District, completely destroying the boys’ dormitory block.

About 120 students lost everything – clothes, books and other values to the blaze.

Mr. Ibrahim Adams, the Assistant Headmaster, confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and said it started at about 1530 hours on Tuesday.

The cause had not yet been established but he did not rule out arson.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) is investigating to determine what triggered it.

This is the second time in two months that the school has been hit by fire disaster.

Mr. Adams said the students and teachers had gathered for the official inauguration of a new classroom block built for the school when they spotted a plume of smoke rising into the sky from the dormitory.

They quickly informed the GNFS but nothing could be salvaged, when the firefighters responded to the emergency.

The disaster has put immense pressure on the school forcing it to convert classrooms into makeshift sleeping place for the affected students.

The Assistant Headmaster appealed to the district assembly, individuals and corporate bodies for support.
