Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), the television and radio regulator, has issued an official notice banning TV ONE's Ramadan transmission and forbidden the host, Shabbir Abu Talib, and Maulana Kaukab Noorani from appearing on any other Ramadan program.
In the same notice, PEMRA has also banned Hamza Abbasi's Ramadan transmission on Aaj TV to "diffuse the situation."
If it wasn't for the social media pressure, a US-based social media commentator, Dr. Kashif Chaudhary, said, "Hamza Abbasi's program would have been the only one banned. .."
"Having said that," Dr. Kashif Chaudhary added, "it is still sad that PEMRA has to ban Abbasi's program under pressure from thugs who threaten violence and mayhem."
PEMRA threatened that if any of the violators -- Shabbir Abu Talib, Maulana Kaukab Noorani, or Hamza Abbasi -- will speak in any other broadcast on the 'matters of conflict', those will be banned as well.
