A persecuted Muslim group has raised more than £200,000 for charity.
Proceeds from Ahmadiyya Muslim Association’s Walk For Peace are still being counted, with donations accepted until October.
More than 2,500 people joined worshippers on the walk, with Barking Ahmadiyya Muslim Samira Ahmad, 50, stressing the importance of unity.
“We are a peace-loving people,” she said. “Our prophet was peaceful and forgave his enemies. He would hate what terrorist groups like Islamic State do.”
The five-mile walk began and finished at 1,000 Dockside in Beckton last month, with the association pledging up to £300,000 in match-funding.
About 30,000 Ahmadiyyas live in the UK, and originate from Pakistan, which does not regard them Muslims. Donate here
